The Goldberg Practice
The CC Writers
Natalie Goldberg Style of Writing
For our WE Write practice, CC Writers follows these simple guidelines adapted from Natalie Goldberg's book, Writing Down the Bones. We've found they help us write freely and build trust through acceptance and confidentiality.
Write rapidly whatever comes to mind, even if it's "I have no idea" or "I'm just jumping in here."
Keep your pen moving; no rereading, no crossing out, no rewriting!
Lose control; accept whatever comes.
When it's your turn, read your writing aloud. Read even if you think it's nonsense — this is not about publishing but about getting stuff down. The only legitimate excuse not to read is content that's too personal or revealing.
Don't apologize for your writing.
Don't criticize or make judgmental comments on anyone's writing, although appropriate laughter is always welcome.
Keep other people's writing confidential.
